Summer Reading List

Is it premature to start compiling my summer reading list? Classes are done, finals are almost over, graduation is in a couple of days. I'd say it's time.

I'm reading The Alchemist for our he-man, shoot-em-up, macho gun club, I mean book club. Life of Pi and Interred with Their Bones are in the docket (actually, I've started both of these, but they're on hold because of grading and the gun... uh, book club book).

What else should I read next week after I turn in grades?

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is amazing. I read it aloud by candlelight to my mother when we were stuck in the huge storm with no power. She loved it, and we finished it in less than two days.

I received an email today which had some suggestions for summer reading. I haven't read any of them so I don't know how bad or good they might be. Here is the list:
Fathers and Sons
Beowulf
Native Son
Beloved
Madame Bovary
The Stranger
Waiting for Godot

Let me know if Life of Pi is worth the time and effort I would have to put forth... it's been on my shelf for 8 years now.

Okay. I finished Life of Pi. Not sure what to say. More on that in a future blog post, I think. Gotta digest it for a day or two.
