Yummy in my tummy

One of my lit students baked cookies for us. One of my favorite things in the whole world is a homemade sugar cookie with pink frosting. This one has the added benefit of having cream cheese pink frosting. It was very good. The only thing missing was a glass of cold milk.

This post, by the way, is prompted by the delicious posting of some yummy, yummy pictures by my friend Lloyd Shell a day or so ago. You should check out his work... soon.

Premier Woodworking

You may recall, loyal readers, that I pulled off a fun Christmas surprise for my sweetheart. The beautiful entertainment console that Paul Ransom made for us is the centerpiece of our living room. It makes the room, if you know what I mean.

I had a chance to go with Paul to one of his larger projects last night and take a few pictures. Here's a panorama view of just part of the kitchen that Paul and his partner Stuart Sandall built for a family in another Idaho city. It hardly does justice to the exquisite work that Paul and Stuart do. These guys are the very, very best! Really.

Postage due

When I first saw the 365 project that inspired by little project to do a few new pictures through the year, I had the grand idea that I would get out and find cool shots all around town. Two things have interfered with that plan-- 1) I don't got no time to do that, and 2) it's too darn cold out there anyway.

Happily, there are many, many things to shoot much closer to home (and in the warmth of my own little winter den).

Rug rat

Since we got our wood floor a couple of years ago we've had an area rug in living room. The rug we bought first was quite nice, but, being an outdoor rug, it wasn't really plush (and didn't vacuum up that nicely). A couple of weeks ago Costco had a killer deal on this rug and we swapped out the old one. I've been wanting to find a way to show off how nice this rug is, but without just a boring old shot of the rug itself. The other night Cate was doing summersaults on the rug and I captured her in the "roll out phase." So... you get to see the rug and a cute Cate.

Birthday Bouquet

Monday was my sweetheart's birthday. Among other things, I gave her some red, red roses. My picture for today is a two-flash shot of the beautiful bouquet. I was a little disappointed with the way the bouquet looked when I put it together, but this tighter shot shows off the variety in the simple selection of roses, baby's breath, and greenery.

What the numbers mean...

One of my loyal readers posted a comment (you may have seen it) in which he said he wished he knew a little more about the numbers underneath the pictures I've been posting. Fair enough, says I. Point your browser here (see the full ink below) for the first of several tutorials (or primers, if you prefer) about what those numbers mean. To see others, look in the right-hand column of that page for the "Tip of the Day" for aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc. Questions or clarifications welcome.
